All our travels finally caught up with us. My little boy woke up with a fever, and we were all feeling pretty worn out. So, we picked up some Paracet (fever + pain reliever) at the pharmacy and spent the day at home. We watched movies, took naps, and ate small meals when we felt like it.
The next day we felt a little better, so we went to Ulsrud farm. Ulsrud is kind of like a mini version of Maihaugen. The man who lived there willed the whole farm to the Gausdal History Society and when he died, it became a museum. There was an art exhibition by local artists, hand-knit mittens, locally made cheese for sale, and games for the kids. We also got to go inside the old farm buildings and hear about Gausdal through the ages. Apparently, the area we were in was completely wiped out by the black death. Out of the 150 farms that existed in Gausdal prior to the plague, only 40 or so remained afterwards. It took another 200 years before the number of farms started growing again. We planned to hike a bit afterwards, but Philip was too tired. We took a drive into the mountains instead of had a snack at the café on the top.
Our last day in Gausdal, we went to visit my former aunt in law Reidun. Reidun always has fresh cakes and cookies on hand and is happy to brew up a pot of coffee for guests. She also had a box of toys from when her grandkids were little for my little ones to play with. We chatted, ate, played, and then caught the train to Trondheim for our next adventure.
